The UNM Health Information Technology Associates Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management. CAHIIM-accredited programs have undergone a rigorous process of voluntary peer review and have met or exceeded the minimum Associate-level Accreditation Standards as set by the CAHIIM. The UNM-Gallup HIT Associates' Program is proud of its CAHIIM accreditation, with our original accreditation date of May 2005.

The Health information Technology program can be completed 100% online for HCHT courses with the exception of HCHT 233 professional practicum which is completed at a site. For those students who are not in the Gallup area they need to contact Roseanna McGinn / HIT Director, a year prior to taking that course for other options.

Coding Certificate Program

A certificate in Health Information Technology is awarded following successful completion of the 33 credit-hour program. This program is designed to obtain a certificate or those desiring entry-level employment in a health information department, coding. Disease and procedural coding are the methods by which the patient's encounters are classified, allowing the facility to bill insurance companies and government agencies for reimbursement.

AS Health Information Technology

The Associates Degree in Health Information Technology is a two-year (six semester), full time program, that begins in the Summer or Fall semester, and finishes in the Spring of the second year. Admission is on a first-come, first serve basis for incoming students in good academic standing. Students must meet the regular UNM Gallup admission criteria for entrance into the program, and must complete specific coursework in each semester of this six-semester program.
